How's Your Day?

5" of water in our basement - where we've stored everything. And now this email alert:

Please be advised that THS, HC and DF are under a lockdown as a precautionary measure. Trumbull police are involved; we will keep you updated.

My Mia and Gianna are at "HC."

Hope your girls are okay!!

Lock down became a stay put and is now over. There was a suspicious person outside school and they thought (or he did) have a gun.

We'll see much more of this as people lose their jobs, their homes, their sense of control....

Whew. Glad it turned out OK. The 5" of water sucks, though. We've just discovered some leaks in the roof over Nik's playroom. UGH.

I marched my ass into the police station. They had nothing to share. I drove through the school parking lot and around the school. Twice. Looked quiet. No ambulances or SWAT teams. I texted the teacher - they were all fine - just in "stay put" alert which I guess means no changing rooms. All's well on that front.

I lost so many antique photos downstairs - and books and childhood memories. It's depressing as hell.

But we're fine. And I'll get over it. Sigh....

And Mark's OLD company, that let him go last Feb WENT BANKRUPT TODAY!!!! I'm sad for their people though. I am. I don't wish this on ANYONE.

Just hard to get in gear all this week. I had to study all week for the financial exams. My brain is not as flexible as it used to be. Lack of mental exercise. My wife is involved directing the Church theatrical production. So Tanner and I have been bachelors all week.
I hate digging out of water messes. We have had to do that in 3 houses.
I really lost interest quickly and felt sorry for lyn at the IACC meeting today. I was trying to avoid studying and that was more painful than studying

That's a big "if" there, my dear.

We can relate, though it's not as newsworthy. My wife hit a deer - no the deer hit her - going about 60+ down a deserted stretch of US202. Thank the good lord for cell phones. She limped home while in constant contact and is OK. We were fortunate in that the vehicle is not a total loss - Hondas retain most of their value lol.

Flash forward to 4 days ago - I fell asleep doing work on the computer when the dogs start going mental - in the midst of going medieval on their sorry pelts I take a look outside and note several pairs of RED FLASHING LIGHTS in my driveway. Hello. Turns out we had a (silent) fire alarm which, it turns out, was caused by SQUIRRELS eating the relay antenna to our security system. WTF!!!!????

If that weren't enough as it was pouring on Friday night my 6 year old daughter complains that she's getting wet sitting on the couch. Yes, the roof is leaking.

Crap.

Can't wait for 2009 already.

We should be thankful that each of these minor disasters wasn't worse, and that we are all relatively healthy and happy. I hope you feel the same, even though sometimes you might not. :)

Peace - RJ

Those lockdowns are so scary. Been through a few here in lovely Miami. Here we also get a nice automated phone call in addition to the email.

Glad it is over and everyone is ok.

December hasn't been a great month for us either. I am having health troubles and it looks like I get to add a pink ribbon to the bumper of my car, along with my rainbow/spectrum one.

I am determined we will have a nice Christmas in spite of everything. I need to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" or "Charlie Brown's Christmas"
again.

Hang in there, Warrior Mom! I'll do the same!
