GARDASIL, Show your Doc, Talk to your Doc!

Judicial Watch Sues FDA for Producing “Partial Response” to FOIA Request
(Washington, DC) --

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today released new documents obtained from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act, detailing 1,824 reports of adverse reactions to the vaccination for human papillomavirus (HPV), Gardasil, including as many as eight deaths related to the vaccine.

Judicial Watch had previously obtained 1,637 reports relating to Gardasil on May 15, 2007, bringing the known total to 3,461 adverse reactions including eleven deaths since FDA approval. Among the new information uncovered by Judicial Watch:

• “20-Jun-2007: Information has been received…concerning a 17 year old female who in June 2007…was vaccinated with a first dose of Gardasil…During the evening of the same day, the patient was found unconscious (lifeless) by the mother. Resuscitation was performed by the emergency physician but was unsuccessful. The patient subsequently died.”

• “12-Jun-2007: Information has been received…concerning a 12 year old female with a history of aortic and mitral valve insufficiency…who on 01-MAR-2007 was vaccinated IM into the left arm with a first does of Gardasil…On 01-MAR-2007 the patient presented to the ED with ventricular tachycardia and died.”

• 28-Aug-2007: Initial and follow-up information has been received from a physician concerning an “otherwise healthy” 13 year old female who was vaccinated with her first and second doses of Gardasil. Subsequently, the patient experienced…paralysis from the chest down, lesions of the optic nerve…At the time of the report, the patient had not recovered.”

From May 10 to September 7, 2007, the 1,824 adverse vaccination reactions reported to the FDA via the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) included 347 serious reactions. Of the 77 women who received the vaccine while pregnant, 33 experienced side effects ranging from spontaneous abortion to fetal abnormities.

Other serious side effects continue to be reported including, paralysis, Bells Palsy, Guillain-Barre Syndrome, and seizures.“In light of this information, it is disturbing that state and local governments might mandate in any way this vaccine for young girls,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “These adverse reaction reports suggest the vaccine not only causes serious side effects, but might even be fatal.”

Judicial Watch filed its request on August 20, 2007, and received the adverse event reports from the FDA on September, 13 2007. (On October 3, 2007, Judicial Watch filed a new lawsuit against the FDA for its failure to fully respond to Judicial Watch’s FOIA request as required by law.)

Kim,
This is very distressing. I'm a cervical cancer survivor and would be thrilled to find something to prevent or even cure it, but not at the expense of people's lives. Thank you for keeping abreast of this situation.

This is awful. I haven't followed it much b/c I do not have a daughter --thoughI am very much against the legal mandate of this vaccine. This is outright disturbing and I will pass it along to my sister who has a 16 yr old daughter considering this. SCARY.

Anti-Wife, God bless. I agree with you. No one wants deadly diseases. I'm not even anti-vaccine. But GD why can't they be SAFE! Like the 8 children in Nigeria who have Polio from their vaccine (they still get the injected version because it is easier and cheaper to transport and keep fresh.) American kids get the ORAL polio, no longer the injectible. WHO's response to the known quantity of kids who WILL get Polio from the vaccine? The old "greater good" bull shit. Which is find until you're the collateral damage.

It's the legal mandates that are disturbing, putting profits before patients. The gov't should not make my healthcare decisions. Especially when Big Pharma funds the politicians campaigns.

Let parents decide for themselves. And women too. And men, because MERCK is pushing for Gardasil for BOYS AND MEN too.

But think of all the money it's making!

That IS the important thing.

I've been watching this one because I do have a daughter who is 8. This one and the meningitis one as I have a 14 and 16 year old boys and understand they are moving this down from just college age kids to highschoolers.

I'm not anti-vaccines and have had a family in our church lose their son quickly to meningitist but what are you suppose to do when you see stats like this?

Tammie - it's a tough call and not one any of us makes lightly. I wonder if a college age male has a higher liklihood of dying in a car crash than of meningitis? In which case would a family never allow the child to drive? Of course, when it's your child to die all bets are off either way. Just as if it's your child who has a horrible reaction to a vaccine, you don't really care about how many kids did not. Human nature. You do your homework, make sure your child lives a healthy life with quality food, a few chemical insults as possible and then you look up to the sky and send out prayers.

And I'm sorry for your friend who lost their son. I haven't heard about reactions to the meningitis vaccine. I would worry if it was given along with Flu at the same time and/or other boosters.

Oh, one more thing. I have a friend whose son has autism - she DID allow her daughter to get the meningitis vaccine but then put her immediately on the Renew Life brand of all natural product called, "Metal Cleanse" to help the child's body kick out the aluminum and detox itself. It was her safety measure.

One one one more thing. I would suggest although this is NOT medical advice but if I were prone to talking to myself while blogging I'd probably say something like, "NEVER give a child Tylenol with/after a vaccine. It lowers glutathione levels. And it masks an adverse reaction, which usually means a high, prolonged fever."

A family friend who is a doctor at a big med school here (San Francisco) is a liver expert and says that Tylenol is extremely damaging. It will hopefully go in the pile with children's cough meds and aspirin (for kids)...I just wish flu shots and compact fluorescent lightbulbs would go with it.

PS - Hooray to Gianna for noticing the new CNN logo and telling you about it. That rocks!

Ooh - here's my PS. When I say "pile," I mean hazardous waste disposal facility... :-)

Kim,

What are your thoughts about the flu shot? They are recommending it as a preventative against MRSA. I've been hearing more and more about staff infections in our area.

My twelve-year-old daughter's pediatrician just days ago urged me to schedule this vaccination (he's on a mission, urging all of his patients). The brochure he gave me says most human immune systems can fight off the virus unassisted. It also says side affects vary widely and should be taken into consideration.

The Wikipedia article on the Papillomavirus mentions Gardasil and states that trials "showed 100% efficacy against persistent infections." Also that "The vaccine has no side effects with the exception of soreness around the injection area. The FDA and CDC consider the vaccine to be completely safe. It does not contain mercury, thimerosal or live virus (only dead virus)."

Muse, flu shot protects against last year's flu strain(s). It is made from last year's viruses. Staph is a bacterial infection. However, they may be saying that IF you get the flu you may be more likely to fall prey to a Staph infection. Washing hands, diligent cleanliness, caution in public places will do the same thing, without putting 25 mcg of mercury into your body. Also, a recent study in Lancet showed that the Flu vaccine is only 20% effective in people over age 70. It is 70 - 80% effective at its peak. It's a personal judgement call. I would not give it to my own childre, nor myself, nor Mark.

Stephen, you know who write the Wiki def? Merck. The manufacturer. Nice, huh? When you book comes out you and your Mom get to write ALL your reviews. Sound good? ;)

The Muse said...

Thanks Kim for the info. I had recently read on I Village's website that it is estimated that Staphylococcus aureus or Staph (not Staff - it was late) is present on 30% of all people's skin. Yikes! I had not realized that a Staph bacterium was so pervasive. I had always thought that it was some obscure strain of bacteria that you likely picked up in a hospital. Diligent cleanliness is a must! I will become OCD about washing hands now.

PS. We had a woman at work that had a very severe reaction to the flu shot and nearly died. She suffered neurological damage and hallucinations. She lost around 80 pounds and spent months in the hospital. It was very scary to witness this.

Kim Rossi Stagliano said...

You're welcome Madame Muse. And that effectiveness that Merck touts? That means the body has created antibodies for THAT particular flu strain, which is no guarantee that it is the current year's flu strain. The flu shot is a big fat money making, fool the people you're caring for their health scam. Are there people who need it. YES! But the entire population? Nope. Again, I think medicine should be recommended by your personal doctor, not an ad campaign in People magazine or the local Piggly Wiggly.

As a mother of two girls, this is totally frightening. Thanks for the update.

Kim Rossi Stagliano said...

Drama it IS frightening. Plus, the lead researcher on the Gardasil has put out a press release saying it was NEVER TESTED ON GIRLS UNDER 15 and that it was only tested on 12,000 females before launching. 12,000 is a small subset of the population. Now that it has rolled out the adverse reports are pouring in - and adverse reports, like rapes are very much UNDER REPORTED to the Vaccine Injury database.
