In Which Miss G. Masters her OT Goals.

Ah, summer vacation. Day 2.5. Dear God, please make September come fast. Miss G is my 10 year old. Miss G likes to show off her newly mastered occupational therapy skill called, "Look at me, I'm Freddy Kruegger!"

Miss G. snuck quietly up to my room and opened a drawer. There she found scissors. And a couple of bras. The PECS (those are the little picture cards used by kids with autism for communication) were on my bureau, along with a case of lovely business cards my sister Shelly had sent me.

Miss G. also went into my bathroom, where she found a lip gloss. Miss G. cut my bra strap right off the bra. She did not cut the cups. The cups are laden with cushy padding designed to transform me from a Q-tip to a fully formed adult female. The illusion lasts until I am naked. At that point, my husband doesn't care. Thank God for leg men. She couldn't slog her way through the cup I guess. She cut a bra, several laminated PECS icons, a small foam paint brush I use for my custom painted hand bag business, business cards and a letter from my older daughter Mia's school. She then tried to glue a collage using lip gloss.

Miss G. I salute your talent. Your perseverance in pursuit of your art. You just can not get pissed off at Miss G. She is too damn funny. Making too much progress. So, can you guess which child is Miss G. in the photo?

Ooooh, Kim!!
This is hilarious.
I'm busting a gut, no joke.
Miss G is the adorable cutie in the green T-shirt, looking exhausted after her creative outburst (as I often am after mine) and looking every inch like the cutie her mom is.
Leg men.
You kill me.

Ohhhh!

How cute are they! Miss G looks happy as a clam, and she should be right proud of her art project.

High five for Miss G!

I am not sure which beautiful child is Miss. G. but the art project is indeed extremely creative and I would say any OT would be beyond impressed!!! This is just way too funny and the girls are just way too cute! Now tell me who did the artwork today?

I'd wave my arms in the air too! Yay Miss G. :)

That's quite a story. And your girls are all beautiful.

Look at the bright side: at least you weren't wearing the bra at the time. :)

No fair, Mom-NOS! I almost spewed my coffee! Excellent point. Nothing like an autism Mom to find the "bright side a la PDD!" By the way, hope you're doing OK.

Miss G is the the kiddo imitating Rocky Balboa -- fists high! She's fond of yelling "Nice job, Geej!" Bella is cowering behind Mia, wondering how the hell she landed in this family and whether there is a lovely family in Sasstakoon missing a blue eyed tot. Mia, who is a mini-Kimm,is the gal looking at the camera as if to say, "Mom, you're such a dork." She's almost 13.

Mr. Leg Man? A stroll through any children's department undies display will be about as interesting as anything I can show you. However, if I lose that writing contest.....

Great post Kim, and Miss G looks triumphant and happy. Bella and Mia are probably subdued because G got to the scissors first.

Jared loves to use painters tape to tape his trains, animals, whatever together. Sometimes he'll tape the trains to the track, so it looks like a big tape stick. His scissor dexterity is great, and this game of his own making has improved his understanding of spacial relations and scale.

Kim, you just might have to free 'the girls' so your daughter can pursue her art.

Don't tease me. I'm too fragile.

Hysterical. Your daughter is a genius, and I can see where she gets it from. Lots of creative brilliance in your family :)

Uh....I'm guessing the one that looks just like Mommy in the green?

Your children don't have full day full year ABA programs??? Go after the district for that one!

Like you I'm petite on the top. my ex used to refer to my augmented bras as "water wings."

My real husband, the one I'm married to now and forever, is a leg man, thank God.

Enjoy the sand and surf!

Oh get real! It's "athletic" not "petite on top"! Be grateful, you can wear lovely skimpy tops with skinny straps, those of us of a more generous proportion can only dream of....

Highland hottie - you have a point. I never think twice about what I buy. The other day I bought a bikini off the rack - my husband picked it. Small top. Medium bottom. Brought it home. It fits. Thanks for the reminder that being "athletic" has its advantages. Oh, and yes, the top has padding. :)

Too funny, Kim. Your girls are gorgeous! Reading your words makes me glad to see a parent taking so much interest in their children and not letting Autism beat them. I love working with all of my clients. I work with adults and children---Mentally challenged and Autistic. It's a great feeling! :*) Gotta have LOTS of patience but it's worth it!

That's a great story and pic, Kim! Though, I'm sure your bra is sad. I too am "athletic" on top. I used to be less athletic and more round, but apparently giving birth to children and nursing them made everything more "athletic." And by athletic, I mean deflated. So, perhaps athletic wouldn't describe my physique.

My boys are currently enjoying a game of Balloon Lagoon downstairs unsupervised, so I better run before they reveal new skills ala Miss G.

I think the creative gene definitely runs in your family!
