Summertime Treats
Summer's almost here in New England. Soon the temps will hit 75 degrees! (It's another rainy, cool day here.)
Razzles remind me of summertime. What candy or food brings you back to your childhood? Pixie sticks make me think of splinters on the boardwalk heading up to
The Casino on Falmouth Heights Beach.
Bonus Question: Can you remember slogan for this soup?

Okay. Those weird violet chalky candies in the purple foil wrapper.

What were they called?

Choward's old fashioned wafers? Called "Violets"? Am I a candy savant or what? No, actually I am just a huge fan of The Vermont Country Story which has tons of old time products in EVERY category. vermontcountrystore.com

Er, I have never heard of that soup before, so I can't even guess to the slogan. :0)

My favorite candy growing up were those packets of colored sugar that you dipped a stick of sugar into and sucked the colored sugar off. (the colors were red, purple and orange-or green-I believe)

I can't for the life of me think of what they are called.

Do you remember Zotz, hard candy that leaked super-tart bubbly stuff on both ends? Those violet candies sell in every Walgreens in New Orleans, I don't remember them from New England. Neighborhood sno-ball shops continue to be huge down here. More and more stands offer sno-balls with soft ice cream or sweetened condensed milk centers. I have sensitive teeth, so that's at least one vice I can bypass.

My son recently had a Baby Bottle Top, and it was Lik 'ems with more plastic packaging. The stick still tastes exactly the same.
