Swinging Saturday Night!
Tomorrow I get my Mother's Day 2007 gift! Mark bought two tickets to see Tony Bennett at Radio City Music Hall. Dinner in the city followed by one of my favorite singers ever. Tony Bennett? Yes indeedy do. I love swing, standards, classics, big band music and even elevator music. I do. Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Ella, Keely Smith, Lena Horne, The Chairman of the Board (that's Frank) Sammy Davis Jr., Peggy Lee. I listen to them all on Sirius satellite radio. I flip from Howard Stern at 100 to Siriusly Sinatra at 75 to New Wave at 22 all day long. I'm strange aren't I?

Here's the thing; I grew up a dedicated follower of punk and new wave, but the Sammy Davis Jr. version of Mr Bojangles is one of my all time favorites - gets me everytime, goosebumps now even thinking about it. Come back and dance Mr Bojangles. And I sing lil' Ole Wine Drinker and That's Amore when cooking, and having the medicinal glass of the Valpolicella. But to have something in common with me only confirms you are strange, right?

Enjoy the Benedetto, and you never know, he might just burst into a few bars of Physco Killer, qu'est-ce que c'est...

Fa fa fa faaa fa fa fa fa faaa fa. LOL! Mr. Bojangles, huh? I'd have thought you were more of a Candy Man type. :)

You're not strange(okay, I really don't know you well enough to make a blanket statement...but your taste in music isn't strange) LOL

My Dad is a huge music fan, so we all grew up listening to the classics(We referred to Sinatra as "Uncle Frank"...we heard so much about him we thought he was actually a relative). I was secretly crushed when I realized I woiuld never be able to sing like Ella...
I suspect there are more than a few of us new-wave chicks who enjoy the music of that era...they're just "in the closet" because they're afraid of losing their 80's cool cred. Overuse of Vavoom hairspray does not result in the inability to appreciate beautiful music(I oughta know...my hair didn't move for several years)!
Let's agree to consider ourselves "well-rounded" rather than "strange"...

Have a grat time at the show...I'm jealous!

Do you have any Benedetto art? Might be time to start hinting for next Mother's day...

Lucky you! A night out on the town and the music! I never know why they just don't have a dance floor instead of all those silly seats!
BEst wishes

Vavoom! LOL!!! I was a Freeze N Shine girl. Oh the shame! I tried to wear my hair straight. And shellacked it to get the look. Uncle Frank - that's grand!

Now I've noticed that I have little bits in common with a lot of peole who visit this site, which is a little disconcerting.

The '80s....OOOOH the Shame! I back combed my hair which was down to my waist and did weird makeup to look like Dr and The Medics.

On a brighter note I have a healthy appreciation for Italian red wine - Travacello's my favourite.

my 80's hair wasn't exactly Flock of Seagulls, but it seems to have flown off anyway.

Not at all! I LOVE all the big band, torch songs, etc. I have all those plus Bobby Darrin, Billie Holliday, you name it. I have the most eclectic collection of songs on my iPod including--don't laugh--klezmer music and polkas from Germany, and torch songs from France. I have TONS of Brasilian music, Cuban, African music, you name it. And then the Clash and INXS and Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen and all sorts of crazy music that doesn't at first seem compatible with the oldies.

Totally.

Did I ever tell you about my dream of being Billie Holliday when I was 8? I used to pretend to be her in "Lady Sings the Blues" all the time. I would nod off, just like Diana Ross did in the film. (I didn't know it was Heroin addiction; I thought she was sleepy)

Anyway, you can imagine my parents' horror when I lipsynched "Strange Fruit" at the Catholic School Talent show - and did the whole Heroin nod-off at the end.

Good times.

Have a ring-a-ding good time tomorrow night!
