Wonderful Bedfellows

Autism has introduced me to some of the most powerful, smartest, dedicated people in the world. Need something accomplished? Ask an Autism Mom or an Autism Dad.

Please pop over to this post on Huffington written by a friend of mine (met her through autism) about her 19 year old son with a severe form of autism. 19 turns 20, then 21 and on and on. He's a grown man. And he's going to have a LOT of company in a few short years.

Today I'm thinking about a kid named Dan. Truly one in a million....... or is that millions?

Makes you realize how brave Imus is.

Yup -- Janice Joplin? Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose. Maybe Imus has done enough that he's not beholden? The rest are.

Kim, did you see The View a couple days ago? If so, what did you think of it? They did a whole show on autism. I happened to catch a few minutes while stretching after my big dog walk, so I taped it and watched it later, thinking of you. One of the boys featured had "recovered" from autism, and so had a 50-ish woman, apparently. Two other twin boys, one was completely non-verbal. And singer Toni Braxton was on, as she discovered a few months ago that her 4-year-old (or 3) has autism. I've been waiting for you to blog your view on The View!

Okay, forget it, I found your comment about The View in one of your links. Sheesh, you just had to make me go look for it, didn't you? What, you think I possess that level of concentration? Next time, slam it up front, LOL.

Hmm, my word verification is XLSOB. I guess that means I'm an extra-large S.O.B. :)

Great word ver, Cindy! I blogged about the View on my Huffington Post piece. I didn't post it on the loop because it was BSP... I TRY to follow those rules although sometimes I can't resist a snarky one liner! :)

Thank you so much for this link Kim. It was a fabuous article.
Re: The view.
It's always so frustrating when those who can make a difference dodge the issue. My mother in law was furious when Dale Evans wrote her book on the beauty of having a child with down syndrome --"Sure!" She fumed, "You have maids and tutors and your child lives in a friggin' guest house on your property! I have four other sons to take care of -with no help - along with mine." This was in the '60's.
No one wants to see the day to day reality. We just want to cheer when a boy who has autism makes a bunch of points in basket ball and wins the game.
