Palin Daughter Bristol is Pregnant. Could this get anymore curious? From MSNBC.

Is that the main concern of the Conservative dream ticket? The VP and her daughter kept their babies? WHAT ABOUT AMERICA??? Did the vetting team know this and weave it into their plan? And what about this 17 year old who is now thrust into the spotlight for her mother's (?)political ambitions? God bless her, her future husband and her baby. But I think I feel sick over all of this. I really do. It just feels like Palin is being used and now, so is her daughter. I don't like it.

Remember this charmer?

The whole thing is bizarre to me. Has the world gone mad? I thought that others felt the way I do, but I'm finding out that is not true. Apparently, there are plenty who think Palin was a good choice and don't find it all nuts.

This family is about as classy as the disgusting Spears'family. Jamie Lynn--Bristol Palin....yeah, great examples.

Why doesn't this Sarah Paling and her husband go the hell home, pay attention to their kids and get a little more involved in their lives. Losers.

Anonymous said...

I still think the complete truth about all of this hasn't come out yet.

This woman and her husband need to go home and focus on their family. Clearly her ego means much more to Sarah than her kids. And so much for her ultra conservative ways--see how it backfires on ya' Sarah? Your kid listened real well!!

McCain needs to dump her and dump her now!

Kathryn, the world hasn't gone nuts, it's just America! LOL!! ;D

I tend to believe this too. Really, why would anyone vote for this Palin. She's a damn liar.

So now we have a cover-up of a cover-up. Sarah-Liar-Palin, you have only made it worse for you, for your daughter and baby grandson, and for the Republican Party. Hmm -if this second story is really true, Twig was born 4 1/2 months ago, and Bristol has had time to get pregnant a second time. However, I am betting 100 to 1 that Bristol-mother-of-Twig will shortly have a supposed miscarriage. Tomorrow, I am changing my Republican voter registration to Democrat and will vote for Obama/Biden in November.

Hmm, a 44 year old VP candidate who's about to become a grandmother to a child who's mom is unwed and still in highschool.

So much for feeling the love from the Christian Right.

Either A) He was let down by his selection team and Palin and did not know this or B) he knew and he's a total fool.

It was a stupid pick to begin with and although I voted for McCain in 2000, I will not be voting for him in 2008.

Trig Palin was born on 4/18/08. That gives Bristol just enough time to be in her fifth month of a new pregnancy. Just because Bristol is pregnant now, doesn't mean she wasn't pregnant before.

I just came across a comment on a message board that said:

McCain/Spears 2008.

That one did make me laugh out loud!!! Palin needs to go now.

Personally, I blame Alaska. What else are seventeen-year olds going to do there? It's a bad combination of hormones and free time.

Note to future presidential candidates: choose VPs from states where hobbies are readily available.

Oh then you'll LOVE the song I just added. Remember this one? "Run Joey Run!" Can we change it to "Run Johnny Run!"???? Aw man I've got to write a HuffPo - RIGHT NOW! LOL!

Can it be any more apparent that McCain is a screw up?

Not only is her unmarried daughter pregnant but her husband has been arrested for DUI. This woman who was just a beauty queen, sports commentator on the local news and mayor of a jerk water town will be a heartbeat away from the presidency. Mr. McCain has many health issues...some life threatening. Why in the world did he choose her? If he was hell bent on picking a woman he could have chosen Elizabeth Dole or Kay Bailey who have many years of political experience and are well known. If this is McCain's first example of a presidential decision it is pretty pathetic.

Hmmm, my how the stones get thrown around.

Folks just need to calm down.

I always wonder where folks get off trashing people who make bad choices when they are only human. I don't recall anyone putting her daughter up as some moral compass.

Get real. If you're looking for someone to "guide" you and looking for reason to choose based on judgements let's see - a 17 year old who makes a bad choice or a black adult man who sits in a hate filled church for 20 years.

Come on people, keep things in perspective regardless of which party you are for.

Should our leaders be better than us normal folks - sure one would hope, but the 17 year old isn't running and not all moms are cut to be suzy homemaker. But the adult black man is running - him his judgment on his church (and then leaving it) is just one of many bad judgements I sure don't want my president to have.

Funny I thought Dems and Liberals were the compassionate party???

Sorry Tammie, but we all don't need to "calm down." This is a woman who could become President of this country, not of some PTA organization. We need to judge her every step of the way and yes, that includes her family, her lack of experience and all her possible cover-ups.

Kim Rossi Stagliano said...

Tammie, try this on for size.

Telephone rings...

"Hello, Governor Palin here."

"Hello, Governor, John McCain here. Inviting you to join me on the campaign trail."

"Oh! Hello, Senator McCain. I'm honored. Beyond words, sir. However, I just gave birth to my fifth child, and there's a good chance he's going to need my attention more than my other four did. And my oldest daughter is pregnant. I need to be near her to help her prepare for her own baby and her wedding. But I am honored that you asked me sir."

"I understand, Governor. You're a good woman, a fine mother, and a credit to our nation. I wish you the best of luck."

"Thank you, sir. I wish you the best of luck in the election. You have my vote and I'll do anything I can to support you. But as I said, my family must come first right now."

"Goodbye."

"Goodbye."

bob said...

Sure it could have played out that way but it didn't.

It would take a different sort of woman to be in politics to begin with, kids or no kids. Healthy or not.

I think if I have any problem with her is that she is young but then again folks have problems with McCain for being too old.

If we want change, and we want different than look at all the possiblities and the "issues" that come with that.

If every woman answered as your example did, we will always have the good ole boy club.

And come on your more forward thinking than the response "Your a good woman" just because in your example she stayed home and turned it down.

This Palin just had a baby with Down Syndrome in April (assuming the baby is hers) and her 17 year old daughter is now having a baby. Palin has other kids as well. She (AND HER HUSBAND) need to go home and take care of their family. No one is saying a woman is not right for the VP job----just not THIS woman at this time.

Far more disgusting is the way McCain is desperately trying to exploit the hurricane situation. They're shaping this whole convention week around it. I guess they know: hurricanes equal bad vibes for republicans.

Instead of a convention, they should call it "The Katrina Apology Tour".

m said...

"her 17 year old daughter is now having a baby."

And this just in: Palin's daughter's five month old fetus? Pregnant with twins. How does that even happen?! Pro-lifers REALLY love life.

Sorry. Last comment for the day, I promise.

I think they need to focus on the disaster that is Hurricane Palin!

When is this gun loving freak going to pack up and head back to the Clampet compound in Alaska?

Hmmmm. Tammy, why don't you tell us how you REALLY feel?

Kim, great article on Huff. I'd comment but eh, you know how registration and commenting works over there ;)

Your points here were very well put:

"Now I'm thinking about what it takes to be Vice President of the United States. The days of clocking into the White House at 9am and toddling back home to the Admiral's House at the Naval Observatory at 5pm and attending funerals are long gone. Cheney has set the standard for a fully involved VP - regardless of what you think of him. So how does a mother of five children, especially one with special needs, accept the nomination for a job that will put her within a heartbeat of the Presidency and take yet take her away from the five heartbeats of her family for at least four years and still be considered conservative? If she were a Democratic nominee, wouldn't the religious right be attacking her already?"

And you wrote this before the pregnant daughter admission.

This whole thing stinks higher than the Exxon-Valdez spill.

Twins at 17? I'm sure that is not common. Well, now it's not so hard to believe that she also had a D.S. baby at 17.

OMG! That Run Joey Run song is too much. Somehow missed that one. It wasn't on Sounds of the 70s - wonder why? Now, Madonna, on the other hand -- seeing that video a millions times in my formidable preteen years is probably the reason I waited to have kids! ;)

My blog post title for today is Schadenfreude. Really, I'm not happy about poor Bristol Palin's pain, but John McCain's horrible choice in an un-vetted VP? Sure!

Upon what FACTS are you basing your FEELINGS that Palin's daughter is being used? As a special needs Mom I greatly admire Palin for not aborting her Down's Syndrome son. 9/10 Downs kids are aborted. I often wonder who of us would abort our special needs kids if we could know by amnio that our kids would have their special challenges. My parents were great parents but my brother got his girlfriend pregnant anyway. She got an abortion without telling him and he is forever affected by that. He has told me often of his regret over that action but alas he had no say in what she did. I think the people who need to get lives are the truly unkind mean spirited people who are posting on this blog. Barak Obama has come out and said the Palin story is off-limits and if he finds out anyone in his campaign is spreading malicious gossip they will be fired. I think we should all take our cues from this gracious gesture. Wow! I am a Registered conservative Republican who is saying something nice about the other side. Guess that makes me a grown up. Don't forget as Obama said in his statement his mother was 18 and unwed when the Senator was conceived. I dare you all to call his late mother trash.

And so the circus came to town...

My goodness, what a judgemental lot you all are! Whatever happened to 'judge not lest ye be judged"

You're all rabbitting on about christian/family values, but few of you seem to be remembering the most basic of values and ethics, which is being considerate, respectful, and non-judgmental.

Value a politician on his/her merits, not the errors of his/her family, please.

(for the record, I'm a left-leaning Aussie, and think the Republicans generally are a pack of vultures, but I do think you need to tone down the personal attacks a little, people!)

Palin is not qualified to be VP bottom line, no matter what is going on in her family. I for one have changed my vote to Obama due to this pick by McCain.

Kim Rossi Stagliano said...

No one is judging - we're commenting on the fact that this mother is exposing her daughter to international scrutiny during a difficult time. I think Sarah Palin is supremely selfish. There. I said it.

Kim Rossi Stagliano said...

Dharja, those who live by the family values sword, die by the family values sword. Being a Mom doesnt' end with having the baby. Check out what the religious right said about the movie Juno - and now they have their own Juneau on the international stage.

I'm glad we're in America (and you're in Australia) where we can HAVE these discussions freely. That's freedom and democracy.

If any of my readers wants to vote for McCain/Palin - I think that's perfectly fine. I voted for McCain in 2000. I respect everyone's vote.

And I welcome dissent here. I really do. :)

"So much for feeling the love from the Christian Right." I think your wrong on christians being outraged at a pregnant teen, they'd be more outraged if she aborted it and we were finding that out.

And Josh, I did tell you how really feel and unlike some here I post my name :o)

Hey I love that we don't all agree and I'm not up for trying to convert folks to think one way or the other.

But let's not be so vial about someones family life. I thought what happens in private (Bill Clinton) was suppose to be off limits?

Plus regardless of which party I think many of us at one time or another cry out that we want someone who is in the trenches of what everyday folks go through or have at least experienced what we do on a daily basis.

I won't say we can't be judgmental because that is exactly what we have to do in order to decide our votes, judge the candidates and I do believe on the whole package.

And I hear ya Kim, on the issue of not this particular woman and not being against any woman.

I'll agree if I'm gonna "judge" Bill Clinton an how he treated his family and wife, or judge John Edwards, judging Sara's whole package is fair game.

In the end it's about what your willing to put up with and what your willing to overlook and that maybe different for each person.

But this fevered pitch from some is almost laughable.

Kim ya keep a great board, that's why I always return :o)

Thanks, Tammie. We have nothing if we can't debate and even argue. It's healthy. I spent my childhood watching my Dad and uncles stand on our sofas waving their fists and shoes at eachother as they argued politics or what color was the sky. LOL!

And for the record? I think John Edwards is a piece of shit for what he did to his family after portraying himself as the perfect family man. At least he's gone away. For now.

This is from the New York Post today. The entire redneck family gets scarier by the day. Palin can't even manage her own family so NO I wouldn't want her being in charge of this nation.

Palin and her husband, Todd, said that their daughter plans to marry the baby's father - whom sources identified as high-school jock Levi Johnston - and that both "are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family."

Johnston, 17, who is entering his senior year at Wasilla HS, plays on the school hockey team and was once teammates on a youth squad with Palin's older brother, Track, 19, now in the Army.

Despite suffering a cracked bone in his shin last season, Johnston scored 24 goals in 24 games.

"We don't want to talk about this," said a woman who answered the phone at the Johnston home.

On a MySpace page subsequently taken down, Johnston boasts, "I'm a f - - -in' redneck" who likes to snowboard and ride dirt bikes.

"But I live to play hockey. I like to go camping and hang out with the boys, do some fishing, shoot some s- - - and just f - - -in' chillin' I guess."

"Ya f - - - with me I'll kick [your] ass," he added.

He also claims to be "in a relationship," but states, "I don't want kids."

Kim Rossi Stagliano said...

He's a kid! He's a 17 year old kid! It's not right to go after him. Of course he doesn't want kids. Nor does he want to be married and living in Washington DC with his 18 year old wife under the protection of Secret Service. The whole situation is a tragedy and a travesty. You want to see the photo I have of myself with my boyfriend with his arm around my neck in what looks like a chokehold, holding a bottle of Jack Daniets with a Buck knife in his hand? And me smiling? That was at DARTMOUTH college - by the way. Leave the kids alone. You have to leave the kids out of it.

I'm ready to write a book on how far our standards have fallen for the office of the President of the United States. And it started with Bill Clinton, don't think I don't know that.

The American Presidency: From Camelot to Fuckalot.

bob said...

Love that title, I'd buy it! And you could use your picture you just described on the back jacket of the book hee-hee :o)

Look, now we are digging up kids myspace pages? Now that's desperate.

I normally would agree on the experience argument or in-experience about Sara but Dems did such a good job at telling me that Obama's inexperience and fast track thru the ranks is "refreshing" that I figured it was no problem and nothing to worry about since he wants to be only wants to be Prez.

I would watch out though, all this dirt digging while justified will backlash against those trashing her the entire family - remember Carter and his colorful relatives :o)

Come on Kim, let's see the pic!

Kim Rossi Stagliano said...

Alas, Tammie (or Thank God) it's not digital of course. Taken in 1982 or so... Being young is all about being brash and macho for the boys and sexy for the girls. Yeah, today's kids take it public on MySpace and such - we had to use the FotoMat for our half naked pictures - the FotoMat three towns over that is.... ;)

jen said...

well this post certainly is kicking up some controversy...my oh my!

Ultimately my heart goes out to this family - to this young girl who is getting a "head start" on life & losing what little she had left of her childhood.

News flash people! Regardless of your political leanings - Even well-adjusted, well-rounded, grounded, moral parents can raise a teenage daughter who gets pregant, or a son who parties on the weekends, or a child who ends up addicted to drugs.... just as special needs show no partiality - neither do family difficulties & disfunctions.

I can understand ones concern or perhaps offense at the now public spectacle that this brings about. It is possible (well it could be!) that they didn't know...I'm sure this has been in the works much longer than the last few months, afterall.

And though I think it would be crazily difficult to juggle VP responsibilities and being a mom to a special needs child - I can hardly think of anyone that would fight more diligently for special needs children & moms if elected to office.

...throw stones if you will - we all live in glass houses my friends.

All of our candidates (none of whom I am thrilled about) bring with them their own strengths & flaws. - I am a person convinced by personal experience - that our human-ness it what makes us richer, and deeper people.

Barak will bring with him a passion for those whom have to overcome great obstacles & a heart for the less fortunate.

McCain will bring with him a passion for country - for our military, a compassion only he can know for the men who are fighting.

Biden - will bring with him many years of experience - but also knows the hurt of losing people close to him - and that will make him more compassionate.

Palin - will bring with her the knowledge of what it is to be mom, the struggles of raising a family & a passion for special needs children.

Maybe I'm being a bit idyllic - I know, I know - there's much more to it than that...I'm just saying maybe we all need to be a little less cynical & a little more hopeful.

Regardless of the end result - 2 of these 4 will lead our country - like it or not. And despite our leanings - perhaps we should try to look at the strengths of our oandidates rather than their weaknesses.

May the best candidate win - the one best suited to lead & represent the people - skin color, sex, religious affiliation, & family disfunctions aside.

Jen your post was Amazing and to Kim last time I checked Camelot and Fuckalot were the same thing or do you not remember JFK's dalliances with Marilyn Monroe and Judith Campbell Exner? (who was doing JFK and mob boss Sam Giancana at the same time) That comparison carries very little weight. JFK was morally bankrupt. Class is more than an Arthurian legend.

Kim Rossi Stagliano said...

I'm well aware of the dalliances of many, many politicians, including Kennedy. It's just that we had a perceived value of the presidency - that is long gone. We're no longer naive, having had much of it hurled in our faces by you know who in the 1990's. It's sad to me that the President no longer has a shred of mystique or even dignity. It's just anothe job, a big one to be sure, but is it still special? Can we recapture that feeling?

Certain things took place on the tile floor. Get your mind out of the drain. I was clothed. Remember those ankle length Guess? jeans with the zippers at the bottom? However, the were things that will not get ME on any political ticket (even though I kept all three of my babies) but damn they were fun! "Come on!"
