The link is indeed very slow to load and as I can't seem to leave a comment on HuffPo, I'll do it here (GRIN).

I probably shouldn't comment at all, after all I am (virtually) single mom raising two children with challenges who runs her own business.

And it's hard... it's d@mn hard....

But I have been very picky in selecting my clients, and my current clients understand that when things *go nutsy* with the boys, they come first and the business commitments will have to wait...

But that's a choice -I- can make as that's how I've set up my business from the get-go. I don't think such a choice can be made when you are VP of the US of A...

It works. But here's another to cut and paste:

YEA! I got it to work and was able to read your article. I totally agree with you especially this statement...
"Once you've chosen to have five children, and your infant has special needs, who needs you more, your family or your job? "

As VP you have to be prepared to take over should something happen to the P... Is she capable of doing so and still raising her family? Oh my! I still need to read up more on her as she is virtually unknown. Wait she was in Vogue and was Gov of Alaska... lol

Hi Kim,

First time commenters, I came over here from HuffPo. Interesting read. I blogged about your article on my conservative homeschool blog today. I included a quote from an influential politically conservative homeschool father of eight, Doug Phillips, who believes that women don't belong in government.

Your article provided some interesting questions for me as well, in regards to the Obama family choices; given this is 2008 and we're a liberated country of equality between the sexes.

My blog obviously doesn't get the traffic of the Huffington Post, but the conversation yesterday around the Palin nomination was lively and someone linked to your piece. So it'll be interested to see what is said about this new addition to a crazy election.

All the best,

Hi, Spunky, welcome! Good to have lots of voices here. I think women belong everywhere (except the men's room.... although I'm sure I'm snuck into the men's room at The Boston Garden during rock concerts when the women's room line was toooo long.) As usual, I digress. My question was, if Palin were a Democrat, would the religious right be going after her for her career choice with a young family - and will they anyway? Stay tuned, right? Again, welcome. I love new readers and commenters. Send them over!

Totally agree with your HuffPo piece. This is my first time to your blog too but I'm a regular HuffPo reader.

I think Sarah Palin is a terrible choice for those of us who are parents of special needs children. Her son is only 4 months old...who is caring for him right now? She's a bad mom (there I said it). If I know nothing else about her except that she has a special needs child and she did not rearrange her career to account for the extra sacrifice, that's enough to lose my support. It just hits a personal sore spot with me I guess. I can't imagine making another choice than the one I made. I left my six figure job at firm to start my own practice in special ed law after my son's autism diagnosis. My law firm can get another associate but my son can't get another mother (Yes, I got that from Beau Biden's speech).
On a larger scale, as a mother and a woman, I'm also worried about what type of influence Palin will have on our nation's policies regarding healthcare reform and maternity leave. If she can go back to work 3 days after birthing, why can't all women? I wasn't even able to walk 3 days after giving birth to my second child! We're already way behind other countries on maternity leave...let's not go backwards: http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2005-07-26-maternity-leave_x.htm

STUNNING RUMOR: MCCAIN'S VP CHOICE MAY HAVE HID DAUGHTER'S PREGNANCY … CLAIMED THE BABY AS HER OWN!!!!!!

August 30, 2008. The presidential campaign has just turned into a soap opera. MediaTakeOut.com is hearing rumors that John McCain’s VP pick, Sarah Palin , may have a scandal in her past. Word is coming from MTO readers in Alaska (yeah, we got readers in Alaska) and from a bunch of left-wing bloggers that McCain’s VP may have hid her daughter’s pregnancy. And that the child which she claims is hers, might actually be her daughter’s.

Here’s a report (excerpted from the popular blog The Moderate Vpoice):

[Governor Palin’s] oldest girl is rumored to have actually been the one who had the last baby, the one with Down’s Syndrome. She was taken out of school the last 4 or 5 months of her mother’s pregnancy.

On March 5th, 2008 Alaska’s Republican Governor, Sarah Palin, announced to the media that she was 7 months pregnant with her 5th child. She is currently 44.

Palin’s daughter Bristol is 16 and attends an Anchorage high school. Students who have attended class with her report that she has been out of school for months, claiming a prolonged case of mono.

Palin does not appear pregnant in any recent photographs. The announcement came as quite a shock to people who had worked closely with her, and have been quoted as saying that she did not appear pregnant whatsoever during the prior 7 months.

And there’s more – check out the photo above taken with Palin’s daughter having a bulge in her stomach. And the below pic shows the governor when she was supposedly 6 months pregnant.

And even more. Since these rumors have begun circulating, the Alaska Department of State has taken down ALL PHOTOS of the governor and her family from the state’s website.

Now y’all know that we’re not knocking the lady for trying to protect her daughter. But if you have that kind of scandal in your recent past, you really have no business running for vice president. If that’s what she wanted to do, she could have done like Janet and Rebe and just stayed out of the limelight for a minute…..

Anyway, even though the mainstream press is too chicken to report on this, MediaTakeOut.com has learned that The National Enquirer is all over this one. Expect the scandal to get bigger (if it is true) in coming weeks…
