Set Your Snark-O-Meter to Kill

Quiz time! Two kids had a birthday today! Two Moms sent goodies to school. Can you guess which Mom is Kim? And which goodie went straight into the trashcan while a 13 year hollered, "THAT'S JUNK!" And how many children sat nicely in class today? Fewer than a non-birthday school day? Probably, if they ate that chemically artificially colored toxic crap masquerading as food. Those cutsie Teddy Grahams? Unbleached flour (wheat flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, Folic acid, graham flour (whole grain wheat flour) soybean oil, partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil, dextrose, honey, maltodextrinm calcium carbonate salt, baking soda, soy lecithin, zinc oxide (OOH! SUNSCREEN!) reduced iron.

Skittles? Well, after 42 clicks in the Skittles site - I got to their Wiki page, where the decline to tell you what's in their cruddy candy. (Which happens to be a FAVORITE of autism ABA therapists although GOD only knows why you'd ply a child with neurological differences a ball full of chemicals and High fructose corn syrup and then EXPECT THEM TO BEHAVE!!!

I found a list of ingredients though: Sugar, Corn Syrup, Hydrogenated Palm Kernel Oil, Apple Juice from Concentrate, Less than 2% Citric Acid, Dextrin, Modified Corn Starch, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Coloring (includes Yellow 6 Lake, Red 40 Lake, Yellow 5 Lake, Blue 2 Lake, Yellow 5, Red 40, Yellow 6, Blue 1 Lake, Blue 1)Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)

Those not quite as attractive, far less colorful and probably mostly thrown in the trash by the children who barely recognized them as edible, even though they cost a small fortune to bake cookies? White rice flour, evaporated cane juice (unprocesses sugar) sweet rice flour, potato starch, cream of tartar, cocoa, vanilla powder (gluten free) xanthan gum, baking soda, arrowroot.

Can I admit that I want Twizzlers after seeing the pic? ;) Yeah, spending the time packing lunches for my kids and trying to bring in healthier treats for parties is lots of...er, well, it's important if not fun! Your cookies show LOVE! Those little snacks remind me that Halloween and it's corn syrup and artificially colored crap is just around the corner, too!

You wanna take bets as to whether I ate the Twizzler? LOL! And Strawberry Starburst were my favorites as a kid. LOL! I know every kid likes that stuff. And I'm a teeeeeensy bit envious we can't eat it!

We are not allowed to bring in treats to the classroom for birthdays. You can bring non-food treats like pencils or donate a book to the library. Don't quote me on this, but I think it's a State of Texas mandate. LOL - aren't we the obese state? When Preston was in Kindergarten this even passed on to the "holiday parties" for Christmas and Valentine's. They had grapes, strawberries, pretzels and 2 big marshmallows. Doesn't that scream festive? Then they let up the rules a bit and now you can have sweets at the party. But only twice a year. Your cookies are gorgeous. Would love to try one!

This also reminds me of my first holiday luncheon at my old company (where I met Mark when he worked at Lenox). I signed up to bring a dessert. My big time New England Culinary trained husband made a gorgeous pumpkin cheesecake. Gorgeous. I went in at 3pm to get my afternoon sugar rush and the freaking thing had not even been cut in to, but the bag of red and green cream filled Oreos was 3/4 empty. I made a HUGE deal about it (shocking) and told them they would NEVER get anything homemade from him again. Idiots. Who picks a green oreo over homemade cheesecake? And I never brought anything homemade from TV Joe ever again. Some people must crave red dye?

You can send some of those cookies my way. I'm always amazed by what people think is food.

It is always disturbing to see parents allowing therapists to shove Skittles, M & M's, etc. into the mouths of their kids as reinforcers. What a double whammy. The kid has behaviors so the brilliant therapists give them food with dyes and other various crap thinking this will reduce behavior. Is there no common sense left in people?!

Do you remember Bonkers? That was one of my favorites as a child. I can only imagine what was in them.

I think your cookies look pretty darn good, btw.

You have to love that yummy zinc oxide!

*chuckles*

We're growing blueberries and cranberries in pots on our deck. Once they're fruiting, we dry the fruit for the kids, and send it in their lunchboxes in little tupperware containers.

Free food, and healthy! And the kids love it :-)

But I'm starting to think I need more than 2 blueberry bushes!

Don't forget the yummy GMO's!

What I wouldn't give for a parent to bring in some of your amazing cookies!

Don't know if this is coincidence (I don't think it is) but I personally know four kids who are gluten filled, dairy filled, dye filled kids, vaccine filled (parents don't believe in the vaccine connection) and ALL are now in residential settings due to their increasingly severe behaviors and lack of progress over the years. I also find it unfortunate when parents say, "Oh we tried the diet and it didn't work." As if it is just that simple.
