Aw Kim, I'm sorry. Your HuffPo article sums up my feelings how we're getting screwed perfectly. Hubs and I are both the 'last men in' at our jobs and pray every day that today won't be "the" day. Will keep you guys in my prayers.
I am just so sorry. I wish I can do something to help - what can I do for you? I know you only through this blog, and I am way out in CA, but there must be something my family and I can do for you. Say the word...
So sorry Kim, Good for you with this lousy news to write an article for huffpo. Many real people are being affected by this economy. I thought my husbands company was solid and his job very secure. He is next in line if there are a second set of cuts. Good Luck to Mark and God Bless to all of you.
Kim I just can't believe it's you and yours AGAIN! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, but just how super does superwoman have to be? Sending happy thoughts to you all - niksmom's right, your time is coming, it must be!
Honestly... I ought to write a book. LOL! Thanks for your support all. We'll muddle through. As Gianna likes to say, "We're a family. Together. We're a family. Yup."
And I am fortunate to have several families - my own, blogging, writing, autism. If it weren't for the entire needing money to live thing, I'd be the happiest woman on earth. Truly.
Last night I got creative in the kitchen (Amanda you'll appreciate this.) I had GFCF pizza crust mix and a can of organic pumpkin. I made pumpkin sticks. The kids gobbled them up (oooh! I made a Thanksgiving pun! I really AM OK!) That was a $5 dinner with two lunches out of it too. My Grandmother would be proud of me for being so "eccy." I'm also considering renting out my new carpet cleaner.... Eesh! What timing!
Damn Kim, this sucks; but, your day will come. I know it. I am sending you and Mark every ounce of positive energy I have. And please, if you need anything just say the word. I know everyone here (and even the lurkers) will do whatever they can to lend a hand. I'm hearing that Dionne Warwick song... Oh God... it's stuck... I'll be humming it all day.
Praying for you and Mark...and working it as hard as I can from the southside - sending Mark's resume everywhere I can think. I adore you both...and will be praying hard.
I have put your family picture on my *Thought Board*. I used to call it a *Prayer Board* but my praying was becoming more like begging! I will send good thoughts your way every day. Gianna is very wise, no matter what we are a family.
Kim, I'm just dropping a note to show my support. AOA and your blog mean so much to me. You've really helped my family and I wish there was a way that we could help you too. Gail C.
Hi Kim, We have not met. I would remember you. You do come up in conversation a lot in my house. I am a daily reader of the AOA and your blog (for the smiles) and my husband looks at AOA (he does not read your blog unless I show him something - I guess it's more of a chick thing). We both greatly admire your activist work. Just the other day, my husband wanted me to email you for advice on an ongoing debate in our house.
We have two kids - my son is almost five and my daughter is two. My son was diagnosed with an ASD at 20 months. After being told by his pediatrician that the diet does not work, we found a DAN! doc in Mt. Kisco and began to follow his advice. My son is GFCF plus no soy, bananas or corn. We also use the other biomed therapies including vitamins and the amino acid supplements. He's doing well now and we consider him "recovered" although he still has some issues. My daughter is NT but I see some of those underlying issues - low tone and the gut problems. It can be pretty lonely following the DAN! protocol so it is really nice to find this community that you help support. BTW, a friend and I are putting together a casual group for biomed parents in the lower Westchester, NY area. Do you know anyone who might be interested?
I don't per se - but there are lists in NY - I'm on some email lists because I'm in Fairfield Cty Ct. It's a good idea. Metro NY isn't as biomed as it could be.
Kim, I send you love and hug. My son is NT but I also read AOA. It is hard to keep up with every articles and comments at AOA. You get much info on vaccine issues. Carla
Hi, Carla - thanks! Share the link to A of A with your friends. There's much to learn about children's health and the lack of concern by the medical professionals who vowed to care for the kids.
I'm coming to the party late here. But I wanted to send my well wishes! I can't believe you are all having to go through this again!
This economy scares the bejesus out of me. My hubs just went through a IT outsourcing overseas and is the "last man in" at his new place. Nervous, indeed! This is just a sad statement of our world today!
Thank you for all that you do. I read Age of Autism every day but lately never get out to the blogs. Sorry I am late to share my well wishes!

Hi Kim, just another one of your fans saying you and your family are in our prayers. It just is so unfair.
Try to keep your sense of humor and your GFCF budget tips are great! I've got to try those pumpkin sticks. Pumpkin is a favorite at our house.
Sending lots of love,
Katherine
