Say Goodbye to your Healthcare Rights.

Think reproductive healthcare rights are a hot topic? Check out THIS bad boy. Courts ordering parents to come in if their children are not fully vaccinated.

No matter what your opinion on the safety of the national vaccine schedule, you might ask yourself if the legal system can force you to partake of ANY medical procedure or treatment for your children.

What if the AIDS vaccine that is currently being tested (Oh wait, they pulled it from human testing in Africa because it made recipients more likely to contract HIV) ends up on the pediatric schedule? Will you give your tot a vaccine for HIV? How about Gardasil with its thousands of adverse reactions including deaths in teens and young adults? If your state adds it to the list of required vaccines for schools are you in?

You might want every vaccine to ever come down the pike for your child. That's your right and very personal decision. If a parent does not want every vaccine, he/she should have that right too. Mind you, I'm talking about basic healthcare and current vaccinations. Not an anthrax or smallpox outbreak. That's another kettle of fish I hope we never need to stir.

I was having a conversation with someone in my Wednesday breakfast group about vaccinations today. I had mentinoed that I had been interviewed by WBZ TV on my decision not to vaccinate my five-year old son. He was an economics major in college and said that one thing he learned was that as we fuel the economy we fuel problems such as those posed by the current vaccination controversy. I am looking forward to a follow-up conversation with him on this point. Until then, I do not understand how the government can force parents to inject their children against their will with toxins listed by the Clear Air Act, Superfund, and OSHA as hazardous chemicals. They do not have dominian over my body or that of my son's.

I'm guessing your decision to quote Thoreau wasn't coincidental. His most famous essay was, of course, "Civil Disobedience," and his thesis is probably worth revisiting.

Wow! I wonder how hard they make it to use the relgious out? Here, I just have to sign a simple paper the school has that says I won't send my children to school if an outbreak of whatever happens. No problem...But the more people who use that-- and obviously we don't have that many Christian Scientist in the world, lol-- I am waiting for them to say they require proof of somekind. Hmmm...

Crazy!

This is scary any way you slice it, but somehow it seems worse that they are making such a fuss over Chicken Pox and Hepatitis B. From a public health perspective, you can make a case for the desirability of mandatory vax for, say, rubella or measles, but chicken pox? Please!

This is very orwellian. Very scary. I hate that I feel bullied by my school district and by my government. I guess I should start looking into homeschooling.
