For my writer friends who are dying to know the answer I got at Backspace about our angst-ridden discussion.

Answer from all of the agents: "A novel."

That is a powerfully positive affirmation. You must be totally wicked psyched that you didn't write an autobiography! Do you feel like you hit the nail right on the head? Have they decided who is going to write your forward? Perhaps some insightful thoughts on pull-ups by the distinguished Joe Barton.

I don't know the whole back story, but "novel" and "agents" both sound good to me!

I know exactly what you mean. This afternoon, I said, "Plumbers be damned," and I wedged my portly torso under the sink in the laundry room. Forty minutes later, voila! A new faucet was installed. It's all part of god's master plan, I think.

Oh Harvey, handy AND frugal? A dream come true.

LOL!

When I queried last year, I deliberately left off the genre and let the agent decide. (Lo and behold, I'd written a paranormal romance instead of a magical chick lit; what did I know?)

Kim, although I don't know you, I can plainly see that you are a brave and powerful woman. There is nothing you can't do. Keep fighting the good fight.

Jackie T, that is very kind. Brave? Our men and women in uniform are brave. Powerful? Well, I can vote on Tuesday and that's pretty powerful! I'm not afraid to speak out and I supppose that takes a certain chutzpah and/or craziness. Do come back!

You sure know how to draw traffic to your site!

I'm not familiar with Backspace but I am surprised by the answer. Talk about being non-specific! Oh, well -- thanks for asking, Kim!

That's awesome. I will now shut my mouth about how you need to write a memoir. (But I still think you should write a memoir...in addition to your novel. You know, cause you got nothing but time :) )

That's a good answer...they're basically saying, if your novel is chick lit, don't categorize it as that...just send it out. Of course, that's not really good advice - you should probably just say women's fiction or women's humor or something.

I came to your site via the chicklitwriters post, and I want to say, you go! All three of your kids are autistic? There must be a lot of love (and patience on your part) in your house! Good luck with the manuscripts.

Thanks addled! Love, patience, determination, coffee, chocolate and a great husband. Sounds hokey but the divorced rate in among parents of autistic kids is said to be WAAAAY over 50%. Come back again!

It's not autistic -- it's kids with autism, dammit...
