Kim Stagliano on CNN

I got a call last Wednesday to appear on CNN's lunchtime newscast about the retraction of a series paper by the UK medical journal The Lancet. What I really wanted to say to Elizabeth Cohen is that clearly she is NOT the mother of a child with autism or she would never even own, let alone wear, an entire oyster bed full of pearl strands for fear of being choked to death or skating on loose pearls and breaking her neck. I think I held my own. As usual, I, "the broken hearted passionate mommy" was followed by the "kindly elderly doctor in the white coat with the soothing voice and lollipop in his pocket."

Oh I find Elizabeth Cohen so very condescending and I have some ideas about what to do with those pearls! Kim, you were wonderful and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that you brought it around to Science again and again. Thank you for that. You more than held your own and stated some wonderful points.

You were fantastic, and I think Elizabeth Cohen was seriously miffed. And rightly so. Well done! :)

You did a great job! Clearly more research needs to be done in this area.

You sure did not look like an hysterical anti vaccine parent! I wonder if they will call you again. Glad you did not have to sit next to the icky Doc.

I saw this segment on CNN and thought you were great. In the short time allotted you summed it all up well. The Toyota analyogy you gave was right on the mark.

I question anyone's judgement who would wear a pearl necklace like that and not realize how ridiculous she looked-seriously-what the heck was she thinking. I could not even focus on what she was saying.

it's irritating that the doc suggests that 'all a parent has to do is get reassurance from their childs dr' when they have vaccination fears. it gave me a creepy feeling, as though he is comforted that every last pediatrician will convince you to vaccinate or they will face consequences. i'm not hearing any testimonies that a ped didn't try to persuade a vaccination when a parent had concerns. i had to say "no" more than once at my 8 year olds checkup for some stupid vaccination not to mention, the flu shot. NO! Perhaps there should be a t-shirt for us moms to wear at well child visits that explains our stance.
