She looks a lot like her Dad!

I read your book. Thank you for speaking up about the vaccine issue. Anyone who believes that vaccines have nothing to do with autism truly has his or her head up their ASS!

So pretty!

I just saw a couple of video clips from the dr oz show today. The topic was autism. There was a panel of doctors and the audience had parents of kids with autism and those who were concerned about it.

That's a show they should have asked you to be on.

hi kim,

it's so sad to me that this 'anonymous' person felt compelled to come to your site to post a personal slam against me.

a. i never said i don't believe vaccinations have nothing to do with autism. i have said that i don't believe it was a factor in my son's aspergers.

b. the flu vaccine we got had no thimerosal.

c. bohemian oddball? sure. i'll take it.

d. refusing to put my son in school. well. it's not a refusal. it's a choice. and the right choice for us. i have nothing against school. just trying to do what's right for my son and his learning challenges.

not sure who you are? but, even with all your (surprising, curious) animosity for me, i send you wishes for whatever makes your and your children's heart sing.

Good questions to ask regarding vaccines.

A different anon here-

"a. i never said i don't believe vaccinations have nothing to do with autism. i have said that i don't believe it was a factor in my son's aspergers."

This is honesty one of the saddest things I have ever read about parent's lack of knowledge about the vaccine problem. Vaccines can contribute to autism but not to her asperger's son?? As if asperger's is not on the spectrum or her son was somehow magically exempt from any damage?? Sad, sad sad.

Finished your book Kim. I really liked it but clearly there are so many who want to stick their heads in the sand. It makes the work against the Offits of the world that much harder.

I find it so amazing that some people choose to attack others instead of focusing on their own children.

Open letter to coward who hides behind "anonymous":

Dear coward,

I dont care who you really are, frankly you represent the deep seed evil of the anonymity of the internet. Those evil spirits who hide much like the monster under a child's bed. But in truth, you are nothing.

I will tell you who I am however, I am a friend of both Kyra and Kim. Both are amazing mothers to say the least and great advocates who take the time to share their lives with others regardless of how little precious time they have left after their busy days of kids, work and advocating. I support both my friends and they have been there in my darkest hours, my son's darkest hours to speak words of light into my life. They and people like them are why I have the strength to fight for not only my own son but likely yours too.

Three words of advice: Get a life.

Sincerely,

Melissa Barton

Hi, everyone - sorry, I hadn't been here for a few days. I apologize for the comment about Kyra - I removed it. I don't stand for personal attacks - we can agree to disagree. Anon - if you want to go after another Mom by name, I'd ask you do that on your own blog if you have one.

NAomi, I think I removed your comment by accident - sorry!! I'm trying to tidy this post up. Not doing to well.... I sent a personal apology to Kyra as well. Don't we have enough angst without piling it on? I love having open comments - I've rarely had a problem. Let's keep it that way please!

Such a great picture, Kim! I am probably stating the obvious but you should frame it.

Dear Kim,
I attended the Wakefield Fundraiser in Long Beach, CA and got your book All I can Handle in my gift back. I spent yesterday reading the book and loved it. I identify with Age of Autism and other autism sites because I spent over 20 years taking care of a sick child who might have been on the spectrum. My daughter
(an 80s baby) received the MMR at 4 and it might have had something to do with her regression-ataxia, loss of expressive language skills, dyslexia, ADD, and huge immune problems. Finally in her late twenties she was diagnosed with celiac disease and is on the road of recovery. Luckily I found the biological causation early although it took years to buck the system to get her finally diagnosed (with a simple blood test)

Her case might be like many other silent ones who are below the radar. This isn't always easy either, even though she is part of the mainstream. Somehow those very small deficiencies can raise havac as well. She has been in one very abusive marriage. I panic when the phone rings. She has struggled with friendships. At one time she called me every day in tears from her work parking lot because she was so afraid of being fired.

I related to the memory of isolated moments in a stream of years... I related to looking at those old pictures and in my daughters case the black circles and the strange blisters on her face that the doctor said were bug bites. NO.. her immune system was failing. Anyway, thanks for your writing, your work, your courage, your determination... all of it.
