That is too scary to comprehend. I'm horrified about it.

Kim,
I haven't seen you on my blog in a while. I've said it before, and I'll say it again (and again and again and ....) CHILDREN ARE INDIVIDUALS; THEY CANNOT BE FIT TO A BELL CURVE. This only works for large statistically significant populations. Last time I checked, one was not a very large statistically significant population.

Kim, Gianna is a beautiful example of this truism. The thing they fail to realize is that people will do what you allow them to do.

Parents who blindly follow the 'professional' diagnoses can limit the actual ability of their child. Supposing you treated your kids like complete invalids and made them completely dependant on you. That's exactly what they'd be like. You have faith in their ability as a human being and it shows in her abilities.

I have a friend from school who is in a wheel chair. Her parents were told she would be useless and to put her in a home immediately. Did I mention she is in university studying to be in social work, and lives on her own with her boyfriend? Yea...doctors limit ability by being too limited and to negative. There are of course exceptions to the rule, but there it is. Everyone learns in a different way.Ada [The Duchess]https://www.blogger.com/profile/17440830191796863095noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35048242.post-32631618706249657132008-04-15T09:50:00.000-04:002008-04-15T09:50:00.000-04:00Thanks! It would be a lot easier for me to do none of it and let "the experts" handle the kids' progress. That's not my style. I'm not happy unless I'm holding the bull's horns.....

Happy BDay Manic! :)

GFCF Mommy, the diet works for some, works miracles for others and not as much for a few. As we know.

Today Miss G dressed herself again. Love that kid. Mia is learning too. Bio...Great post and congratulations Kim and Gianna! Biomedical treatments have had a factor in helping my son too. Without it, he would not be potty-trained. I credit it with bringing back his beautiful smile, because he felt better, he could do better and be all he is capable of being. Cured or recovered? Maybe not, and that isn't really the point, but happier and healthier, yes in a big way.

I do believe autism does bring with it some gifts for the Asperger's level, perhaps. But not being potty-trained is not one of them!

I thought of you the other night when I saw that hunky interviewer guy from GMA working the phones for the autism benefit on Comedy Central. I don't know how you could concentrate in the presence of such male pulchritude! Plus, he seems like a really nice guy, great dad himself, and charitably minded!GFCF Mommyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08080604752386244514noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35048242.post-24575841821714082402008-04-15T08:55:00.000-04:002008-04-15T08:55:00.000-04:00WHOOPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!What do you contribute thi...WHOOPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

What do you contribute this to Kim? My heart just broke....

I know that somebody will put a prize on my head for saying this, but if autism truly is the next step in the human evolution (as some would like us to believe), then I say let's skip that step.. no let's erradicate that step...

Long live biomed, and courageous parents like yourself who will just never give up looking for answers.Petrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12725871498573838663noreply@blogger.com
